For the HR Business Partner, one simple question can open many doors...
HR business partnering is defined by CIPD as “a model whereby HR professionals work closely with business leaders and/or line managers to achieve shared organisational objectives, in particular designing and implementing HR systems and processes that support strategic business aims.”
In short, we could say an HR business partner is a consultant selling the HR function’s services and products.
In sales, you learn that you need to ask questions to identify the problems your customer is facing before you can sell anything of value.
Try asking your internal customer the following question to get the conversation going:
What do you need to be capable of?
You will find that while learning and development is not always top of mind, managers throughout the organisation will be keen to involve you in capability development.
And that’s how you sell it.
